Toy Story 3 brings Oscars to Pixar

Toy Story 3 brings Oscars to Pixar

During last night’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards, Disney’s Toy Story franchise yet again proved it’s power in the world of cinema, as the latest sequel, Toy Story 3, brought home Oscar gold! While the film had to settle for just a nomination in “the big award,” Best Picture, Toy Story 3 did dominate the Best Animated Feature category, sending Lee Unkrich to the stage. Randy Newman, long time composer for Pixar’s CG films, was also honored for Toy Story 3’s song “We Belong Together.” It was the second time Newman received such an honor, having previously won a decade ago for Monsters, Inc.

While it didn’t win the award for Best Picture (losing out to “The Hurt Locker”) Disney and Pixar’s summer blockbuster of 2009, UP, did get to take home the night’s most prestigious animated award, Best Animated Feature Film. The flick appeared in a group of some really amazing nominees; Coraline, The Princess and the Frog, The Secret of Kells, and the Fantastic Mr. Fox each represented toons in an amazing fashion. But, at the end of the night, it was Up that took the Oscar – and not just for the animation! Composer Michael Giacchino also grabbed the trophy for providing UP with a phenomenal musical score. Absolutely well deserved awards, we think Oscar was spot-on this time around 🙂 And for kicks, check out this behind-the-scenes clip of the film, starring Ed Asner, aka Carl Fredricksen

Well, that, and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided it’d be so. But I like my reasoning better. The films must be 70 minutes or longer, and at least 75% digital, so Transformers wouldn’t count. The Golden Globe Award will be handed out on Sunday, January 17th at 8pm to one of the following 5 finalists:
