Disney Junior Orders New Seasons of Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins

New seasons of popular CG animated preschool shows Doc McStuffins and Sofia the First are on the way, as Disney Junior has ordered the fourth season of each series. The renewal is not surprising, considering both shows managed to snag the honor of being the top two cable TV telecasts of all time for kids aged 2 to 5.

Kate & Mim-Mim Makes its Way to Disney Junior

Disney Junior fans from the U.S. will have a brand new animated series to look forward to this holiday season, as the channel will be launching the new preschool series Kate & Mim-Mim on December 19 at 8 pm ET/PT. Produced and developed by Nerd Corps Entertainment, the series was created by husband and wife team Scott and Julie Stewart, based on their own children’s creative fantasies.

I have to admit that I didn’t like Imagination Movers when I first saw my daughter watching the show on Disney Junior, which is a given as I’m not exactly the target demographic. Like most fathers, I had no choice but to catch episodes from time to time as we don’t let our 3 year old tot watch TV unsupervised (even if it is a kid’s channel.)

Disney Starts Production on The Lion Guard

Disney Television Animation has just started production on a new animated TV movie and series titled The Lion Guard, which aims to continue the story of Disney’s 1994 Oscar-winning animated feature The Lion King. The series will be targeted towards kids aged 2 to 7 and their families. The TV movie is scheduled to premiere in Fall 2015, while the series will debut in early 2016 on Disney Junior and the Disney Channel.

Disney Junior to Launch First Original Movie: Lucky Duck

This coming June, Disney Junior and the Disney Channel will be premiering the first ever Disney Junior Original Movie, Lucky Duck. The movie will air on Friday, June 20 at 7 pm ET/PT on Disney Junior and on Saturday, June 21 at 9 am ET/PT on the Disney Channel. Lucky Duck will also be available on the WATCH Disney Junior app and website for verified users starting on Friday, June 6.

Lucky Duck is targeted towards kids aged 2 to 7 and focuses on the seafaring adventures of three misfit tub toys, all of whom are in search of kids who will love them just the way they are. The movie boasts of an impressive voice cast that includes Christian Borle, Megan Hilty, and Tom Cavanagh, among others.

Disney Jr. has just ordered new seasons for three of its most popular shows, namely Doc McStuffins, Sofia the First, and Jake and the Never Land Pirates. The announcement was made by Disney Junior Worldwide Executive Original Programming and General Manager Nancy Kanter.
