Season 2 of Disney's Fish Hooks Premieres on Nov. 4

The 2nd season of Disney’s imaginative, eye-catching animated hit series Fish Hooks is scheduled for Friday, November 4 on the Disney Channel. Fish Hooks is currently one of the top animated shows for kids aged 6 to 11, and is also popular with tweens from age 9 to 14. More importantly, it’s popular with me!! The second season of Fish Hooks will, as before, revolve around best fish friends Milo, Bea, and Oscar as they deal with the day to day life of a tween fish, as they tackle issues related to friendship, sports, and even dating. Of course, there are the occasional problems like giant lobsters, irritable catfishes that need babysitting, and being tasked with riding a bucking scorpion.

Five Awesome Animated Film Scores, from Mermaids to Dragons

Five Awesome Animated Film Scores, from Mermaids to Dragons

There are a number of essential elements that make an animated film come together and lift it from the mundane to the level of awesome. From story structure to character design these important elements dictate the quality of the final product.  One such essential piece of an amazing animated film is the film’s soundtrack, particularly the film’s score.  We’ve seen in the Greatest Themes countdown how powerful music can be.  A film score is an instrumental music track that often lies quietly in the background but at other times can enhance your viewing of the action happening on the screen.  A truly amazing film score knows when to be quiet and when to blast out an audience’s ear drums.  There are hundreds of amazing film scores, from Gladiator to Tron Legacy and everything in between, but what are some of the best films scores written for animated films?

Oscar’s Oasis a ratings hit for Disney, TeamTo, Cake, and Tuba

Oscar's Oasis a ratings hit for Disney, TeamTo, Cake, and Tuba

Cake Entertainment certainly knows how to create a winner! Best case in point is their latest offering, Oscar’s Oasis, a collaboration between Cake, TeamTo, and Tuba Entertainment that tells the story of a lonely lizard who fights through an unforgiving desert terrain and a seemingly endless horde of enemies. From chickens to Popy, Buck, and Harchi, it often seems like Oscar can’t catch a break, despite all his beset efforts to just catch flies and find water. The new CG toon has found a great home on the Disney Channel in many markets, like Asia and Australia, with plans to expand through out Europe and North America soon enough. So, if you’re not one of the lucky few who gets to enjoy one of the 78 new episodes every week, check out these clips and let us know what you think

Disney has big plans for Oscar. The lonely, desert-dwelling lizard has the entire world against him – it’s like if the Road Runner lived in an environment with dozens of Wile E. Coyotes. There’s chickens, meerkats, Popy, Buck, Harchi, relentless sun, no water… but Oscar never gives up! His ingenuity and determination help him outwit and avoid the enemies at every turn. Now, the Cake Entertainment, Tuba Entertainment, and TeamTO animated series is working it’s way over to Disney. In some regions, that will be Disney XD, and others will feature the 3D and CG show on the Disney Channel.

Toy Story 3 brings Oscars to Pixar

During last night’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards, Disney’s Toy Story franchise yet again proved it’s power in the world of cinema, as the latest sequel, Toy Story 3, brought home Oscar gold! While the film had to settle for just a nomination in “the big award,” Best Picture, Toy Story 3 did dominate the Best Animated Feature category, sending Lee Unkrich to the stage. Randy Newman, long time composer for Pixar’s CG films, was also honored for Toy Story 3’s song “We Belong Together.” It was the second time Newman received such an honor, having previously won a decade ago for Monsters, Inc.

Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition available today on Blu-ray and DVD

Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition available today on Blu-ray and DVD

The classic has returned! It may be “a tale as old as time,” but today is all that matters now as Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment brings the Academy Award winning film Beauty and the Beast home to Blu-ray and DVD Combo packs. Beauty and the Beast: Diamond Edition is unleashed from the Disney vault for the first time in nearly a decade, and the first time in the HD Blu-ray format. One thing we always took some bit of an issue with … so “Beauty’s” name is Belle, right? How come Beast’s name is …Beast? He doesn’t get a cooler name, like Steve? Jacob? Beastimus Prime? Bah. Whatever the case, we can’t wait to get our hands (paws?) on the film. Check out the full press release
