For twenty years, Sonic the Hedgehog has been a massively popular icon for video games and animation, alike. Whether you’re watching Sonic X or playing Sonic the Hedgehog 4, the blue speedster has surely brought you hours of joy. Sega is looking to reward that dedication with their upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog’s 20th anniversary celebration. To kick the party up a notch, the company is producing 1,000 specially crafted figurines that depict the Blue Blur. No word yet on how to get your own, but Sega is boldly proclaiming they will NOT be sold in stores. Stay TOONed right here for more info. In the meantime, check out the designs!

He’s blue and he’s fast. For most, that would be enough. But for Sonic, he also demand having one of the best video game franchises out there. For the past few years, he’s been a tad off on this quest, with a few too many lackluster hits. But with the recent launch of Sonic the Hedgehog 4, and now the Nintendo Wii’s Sonic Colors, it looks like SEGA could have a big powerhouse on their hands again. The title brings back the excitement and speed of the first few Sonic titles back on Sega Genesis, and combines new abilities and brilliant level design for an all new, and awesome, feel. But as many experts and critics agree, this is the best full-title to bear the Sonic name since those same Genesis years, so you know Sonic Colors delivered big time. This year, SEGA ensures Sonic is more treat than trick

Halloween is infamous for bringing out devilish, frightening, and incredibly scary characters to our immediate attention. Most of the time, that’s a great thing. However, for what feels like the bast brajillion years, we’ve gotten a terrifying version of one of our more beloved favorites, without ever asking for or wanting it. The target? Sonic the Hedgehog. While the Sonic X toon lives on, the days of awesome Sonic video games feels like it has drifted to the distant past. Year after year, fans are excited for, then disappointed with, the latest SEGA has to offer. That is, until this year. A few weeks back, we got Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I – Sonic’s return to 2D glory. Now, coming up, we’re promised two more gems with Sonic Free Riders on November 4th and Sonic Colors on November 16th. With all these release dates circling the Halloween holiday, we can only hope its more of a treat than a trick!

He parties with his pals Tails and Knuckles, then sets off to explore new territories and new adventures. But the ever wily Dr. Eggman didn’t go down with the Death Egg ship — rather, he’s been planning and plotting his revenge, ever since. This year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo has been a hot one thus far, especially if you’re a long time cartoon fan like us! One of the games we were looking forward to seeing was the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which has been remarkably silent for a game supposedly coming out soon. But SEGA didn’t leave us hanging! The iconic gaming company delivered on an all new level with Sonic Colors. Dr. Eggman has created an interstellar amusement park and enslaved the sentient Wisp creatures that reside on the planets. Sonic sets out to rescue the wisps and once again foil Dr. Eggman – and all in a universe with a color-based power up system. Old school Sonic-ing! Take a look at the teaser trailer

Sonic the Hedgehog’s upcoming fourth game, neatly titled Sonic 4, now has an official release date. Unfortunately, it’s no longer going to hit our consoles (and our dreams) this summer as originally touted, instead falling to “late 2010.” And while that’s certainly a bummer, it’s all for the better; allowing Sega’s dev teams even more of a chance to ramp up the game’s quality, “ultimately providing fans with an unrivaled, classic Sonic feel,” or so the official press release would have you believe. Just as before, the episode game will be downloadable on Sony’s PSN, Microsoft’s XBLA, and Nintendo’s WiiWare, with Apple’s iPhone and iTouch joining in on the fun. The all new episodic adventures of Sonic can’t get here fast enough! Actually, Sonic is fast enough to get here himself by now, but he has to wait for the good folks at Sega. No worries, we’re enjoying every minute of the countdown, as new screen shots of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 are revealed, bringing further happiness! The images reveal the classic 2D styling of the original Genesis games, and areas like Splash Hill Zone, ready for play on the Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3. Every Monday, Nintendo offers gaming fans new and retro titles to purchase on their Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. Today’s adventure in the U.S. is one of the greatest Sonic creations of all time; Sonic & Knuckles. For years, the game was subtitled by fans as “Sonic 4”, but everyone now knows that the true Sonic 4 will be available summer 2010. Sonic & Knuckles was originally on the Genesis, and used this cool “lock-on” cartridge allowing you to connect the older Sonic games, opening new content. Today’s downloadable game features some recreated emulation, and Sega brilliance, so that if you’ve also downloaded Sonic 1, Sonic 2, or Sonic 3 to the virtual console, you can connect them in virtual land.
