Woody Woodpecker Film in the Works

Woody Woodpecker Film in the Works

It’s beginning to look like 2012 will be a great year for classic cartoon franchises, with a lot of big names getting the big screen treatment. The most recent addition to the roster of classic toons to get a film adaptation (as the Mayans have foretold long ago!) is Walter Lantz’ Woody Woodpecker. The upcoming Woody Woodpecker film has a story that will be developed by Blades of Glory screenwriters John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky, with the project being helmed by Chris Meldandri and his team at Universal’s Illumination Entertainment. There are no set details about the story yet, but the team is planning to develop a story that will modernize the character for today’s audiences.

Mattel brings Pixar's Toy Story Space Mission To Infinity and Beyond

It’s been just a little over a year since Disney and Pixar brought the Toy Story franchise full circle, from Andy to Bonnie, with last summer’s Toy Story 3. However, even with the film’s bittersweet closure, fans have been wondering (Buzz-ing, even) about a fourth sequel since the credits rolled on the third film. And while Mattel isn’t exactly stepping forth to announce Toy Story 4, they did something almost as cool; animating a Toy Story short film using the actual Toy Story toys! The entire spot was created using toys from a new line, Toy Story: Space Mission, during a 4 week toymation filming session, where each character is all geared up in special outfits. Take a look at the animated short, as well as shots of the toy line!

Greatest TV Cartoon Theme Songs #18: Woody Woodpecker

Being one of the oldest cartoons on this list, there were many versions of Woody Woodpecker. In the beginning (1940), Woody was completely insane, as if he had been made from the Daffy Duck mold. He also looked too thin, his beak was long, his feet were large, his face was goofy, and his feathers were the dull Technicolors. Over the years, he was drawn slightly different each time, and he matured into a smart, clever bird, with an almost pleasant personality.

Pixar and Disney's Toy Story 3 wins Best Licensed Program

Every year, the International Licensing Industry Merchandisers’ Association (LIMA) gathers at the Licensing International Expo. That’s a lot of words, and a lot of titles, and really it all amounts to “who had the best toy”. When the dust settled at the end of the 2011 Expo in Las Vegas, there was a clear winner amongst the group: the third installment of Disney and Pixar’s CG franchise, Toy Story 3. While Hello Kitty took home the award for best Character and Toy Brand, Toy Story nabbed the top overall spot, bringing yet another honor to Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of Andy’s toys.
