Shanghai Disneyland Planning Toy Story Land
Shanghai Shendi Group and the Walt Disney Company are planning to expand the Shanghai Disneyland with another themed land, this time around based on the Toy Story franchise. When completed, the Toy Story land will be the seventh themed land in the park.
The Toy Story themed land will allow guests to enter Andy’s backyard and see it from the perspective of the toy characters, which means giant prop and environment designs. The new land will also feature new attractions and a greeting area where they can meet some of the characters from the franchise.
Since its opening in June this year, Shanghai Disneyland’s operation has run smoothly and our guests have been very enthusiastic. We have received positive feedback from the entire society–all of which makes us excited about the future,” says Fan Xiping, chairman, Shanghai Shendi Group. “The newly announced Toy Story Land is part of the accelerated expansion plan for the first phase of the theme park. Both shareholders will continue to launch more new experiences to meet the needs of our guests from China and all over the world.”
Additionally, the Shanghai Disney Resort has the only Toy Story-themed hotel in the world and the Shanghai Disneyland park is already home to the Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue attraction.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with Shanghai Disneyland’s first four months of operation and couldn’t be more excited about our future in mainland China,” says Bob Chapek, chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “We’re demonstrating our confidence by breaking ground on a new Toy Story Land that will be both authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese, delighting our guests for years to come.”
The Toy Story Land is scheduled for a 2018 launch.
